Educate East is working alongside an number of specialist SEN schools in Norwich to recruit dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with a range of complex needs.

The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to support pupils with a wide range of additional needs within a specialist educational setting.
You will play a key role in helping students access learning whilst supporting their communication, social development, emotional wellbeing and independence skills.
The role may involve supporting pupils with:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
- Complex medical needs
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Sensory processing difficulties
- Physical disabilities
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing one-to-one and small group support
- Assisting pupils with personalised learning activities
- Supporting communication using visual aids, Makaton or alternative communication methods
- Encouraging independence and life skills development
- Supporting personal care where required
- Working alongside teachers and therapists to deliver tailored interventions
- Supporting pupils during sensory and therapeutic activities
- Celebrating progress and helping pupils achieve individual targets
- Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive
What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from individuals who:
- Have previous experience working within an SEN school, specialist provision, care setting or similar environment
- Have experience supporting children or young people with complex needs
- Understand the importance of a child-centred and individualised approach
- Are calm, patient and able to adapt to the varying needs of pupils
- Can build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues
- Have strong communication and teamwork skills
- Are passionate about inclusion and helping every child achieve success
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
The ideal applicant will hold relevant qualifications and training such as:
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification
- CACHE Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning
- Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education
- Moving and Handling Training (desirable)
- Makaton Training (desirable)
- Team Teach Training (desirable)
- Autism-specific training (desirable)
- Paediatric First Aid qualification (desirable)
